Celestron has joined forces with the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, to create a high quality binocular that will bring a new level of enjoyment to almost any activity: sporting events, sightseeing, birding, hiking, and especially astronomy.

Coatings and Prisms

Inside the Royal Observatory binoculars are two pairs of Porro prisms, reflective optical prisms that take the form of a right-angle triangle with two sides of equal length. Porro prisms make a binocular more compact without compromising focal length, giving it the classic "broad-shoulder" shape of a traditional binocular. Our Porro prisms are constructed of BK7 optical glass, which provides high reflectivity so that more light passes through the optical path to your eye.

These binoculars also contain other optical surfaces that are treated with special coatings for an added boost in light transmission. The result is a brighter view than with uncoated binoculars, ideal for the low light conditions of nighttime astronomical obsering.

The Body

Whether you're stargazing or inside a crowded stadium, you want a binocular that is comfortable to hold and use over long periods, without fear of bumps or drops. These binoculars feature a lightweight yet durable armor-protected chassis. The rugged, rigid frame is coated with rubber to withstand hard use in the field. The binoculars are also water-resistant.

Rubber eyecups make viewing through this binocular comfortable for eyeglass wearers and non-eyeglass wearers alike. Keep the eyecups up for proper positioning of the eyes without glasses. If you're wearing glasses, simply fold them down and out of the way.

These binoculars feature 7x magnification, the perfect boost in power for astronomy, sporting events, and more. You'll get great views of distant subjects, plus a wide field of view so you can easily locate faint objects and follow them as they move. Large 50mm objective lenses provide superior light-gathering ability for bright, high resolution views.

Ways to Observe

The Royal Observatory binocular is tripod-adaptable, so you can mount it on any standard photographic tripod for extended viewing or digiscoping (photography through the eyepiece). The tripod adapter is sold separately.
